The sun was bright. That's what stood out the most that day. That and the solemn affair we were gathered for. The body was surrounded by people and though not a word was said the absence of small talk showed just how much on edge everyone was. I walked over to them and peered over the shoulders of my peers to nod at my friend who'd taken on the duties of the priest for the funeral.
He gave a cough to indicate my presence and there were hald hearted greetings from the gathered mourners. He gave another cough to draw back attention to himself, "We are gathered here to reflect on the passing of a dear friend.


MonologueSo there I sat. A perfect caricature of terror compressed into a small body. I'd never been much of a boy. A bit on the thin side. Enough to be called skinny in dim light. But what stood out were the teeth. It wasn't often you saw teeth doing the hemp fandango. Even as they guillotuined the tongue. Almost as animated as the teeth were the eyes. Brown eyes a shade lighter than is usual with a splotch in the left that is a story for another time. They dart quickly into the corners of the room as if they would provide refuge from the pain he expected would soon be ripping through his throat. He could barely swallow as it were.
